STEP Resources for Ontario Assessors



STEP Initial Language Assessment


The STEP Initial Language Assessment is for teachers responsible for assessing newcomer students to Canada who are English language learners. Math assessments for Elementary and Secondary are password protected, and provided to publicly funded English language school boards. 



STEP Initial Language Assessment User Guide 


The STEP Initial Language Assessment User Guide contains guidelines for establishing processes and assessments for receiving and welcoming students in Ontario school boards.

The Peel District School Board video "What is STEPS to English Proficiency?" provides a solid and concise introduction to the STEP Continua, and how it is used by teachers in schools.

Mulitlingual Tip Sheets for Parents about Ontario Schools

The organization People for Education developed useful multingual tip sheets on various aspects of the Ontario curriculum, from EQAO to Special Education/

This site contains a wealth of information for immigrant youth on various topics in simple, concise language.


The Ministry of Education translated resources for parents includes various titles on topics like doing reading, writing, and mathematics with kids.
